Notes This humpback, known to us as Stumpy, was first
photographed by Hal Whitehead in 1979 off Bay de Verde. It is known
as #1577 to the scientists at Allied Whale who report that Jon Lien
photographed this same animal off Southern Labrador in July 1993.
Humpback #1577's distinctive tail fluke was mangled by orcas over 28
years ago. Contributing photos to Allied Whale or Atlantic Whales
allows us to better understand amazing animals such as Stumpy.
